CANTON, Ohio—A northeast Ohio city will soon see a 23-foot sculpture to mark the founding of the National Football League.
Canton is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Repository in Canton ( ) reports the city’s downtown could receive the piece entitled “Birth of the NFL” as early as October. The sculpture is made from steel, stainless steel and glass.
Denver-based artist Michael Clapper told the newspaper his design will include a transparent spheroid from which the letters N, F and L will be suspended. He says the sculpture will look like a football to those who are football fans.
The piece is part of the 11-sculpture collection that Canton officials plan to situate around the city to celebrate the greatest moments in professional football history.
