Getting your player ready...

George Thornton of Fort Collins, who is trying to become the oldest man to swim the English Channel, has delayed his start again. Now he’ll aim to dive in Thursday.

Thornton was originally scheduled to make his swim on Wednesday, but scheduling problems with the boat that accompanies Thornton prompted the change.

Thornton, 73, has been in Dover, England for about a week, preparing for the 21-mile swim. His son, Charles Thornton, told followers Tuesday that the weather looked good enough on Wednesday to make his attempt in the frigid water.

However, there were worries that the boat that is to travel along with Thornton wouldn’t be ready in time.

“I do not yet know the new start time,” Charles Thornton said Tuesday.

George Thornton tried to go for the record last year but bad weather scuttled his attempt.

The swim takes about 16 hours under the best conditions.
