LOVELAND — Two more confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Loveland residents, including one who lives near the epicenter of this weekend’s major events, have prompted an emergency response and the first city-wide mosquito sprays since 2007.

Neither of the most recently infected Loveland residents have been hospitalized with the infection, said Jane Viste, spokeswoman for the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment.

One of the residents lives in west Loveland, and the other lives near Benson Park Sculpture Garden in north Loveland, where thousands of people are expected to attend Sculpture in the Park on Saturday and Sunday.

In response, the city has ordered emergency spraying for Thursday after 10 p.m. around Benson Park Sculpture Garden. The spray application also will cover North Lake Park, which is also expected to be heavily populated for Art in the Park, as well as Loveland High School, where the Sculpture Invitational will be held starting Friday.
