One man was killed Friday when a cement truck overturned on Interstate 25 in Douglas County.
The truck, a 2006 Kenworth out of Colorado Springs, was northbound about 11:55 a.m. in the Greenland area, about five miles south of Larkspur, when the crash happened, the .
Cars were getting by in the southbound lanes of I-25, the , but the northbound lanes were closed at the Greenland exit.
The accident was likely caused when a tire, or tires, on the truck blew out and the cement mixer rolled onto its side, said Trooper Josh Lewis, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.
The weight shift of cement and water inside the mixer when the tire blew likely contributed to the truck rolling, Lewis said.
The driver died on the scene.
The name of the driver was not released, pending notification of relatives.
The crash caused water and fuel tank ruptures on the truck, resulting in a minor hazardous materials cleanup.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Southbound traffic is moving but extremely backed up as drivers brake and rubberneck as they pass in the opposite direction.
It’s unclear when the north lanes will reopen.
