It’s being called the Colorado-Utah Border War, but call it a chance to view high-end high school football.

On Sept. 7, Valor Christian in Highlands Ranch will be the site of a double-header in Week 2 that will have some clout — at 2 p.m., Mullen will take on Lone Peak, then Valor will host Bingham.

A year ago, in Zero Week, the Eagles’ first loss in 25 games and their first as a 5A school, and the Mustangs’ first game under coach Tom Thenell after former coach Dave Logan was .

“It should be a lot of fun,” new Valor head coach Rod Sherman said.

In 2012, Valor lost to Bingham 21-20 in South Jordan, Utah. The Eagles also will play in , on Aug. 24,

“These teams are very, very athletic,” Sherman said. “A lot of those kids have either committed to or been offered by high-end programs.”

Valor was 12-2 in 2012, winning its fourth consecutive state championship and has won 10 games in succession. Mullen was 6-5 a year ago, losing to eventual state runner-up in the second round.

Both Bingham and Lone Peak are recognized as Utah and national powers. Both teams were 10-3 in 2012. Fresno Central was 11-3.
