Mitigation work has begun again to protect water supply that flows to Greeley and other cities following last year’s High Park Fire.
Trucks and helicopters began hauling wood mulch this week to badly burned hillsides to keep soot and ash from running into the Poudre River, which is costly to clean. About 1,700 acres will be treated this year, according to a news release.
Fort Collins, Greeley and the tri-districts (North Weld County, Fort Collins-Loveland and East Larimer County water districts) spent $3.5 million last year to treat 2,600 acres of the 5,500 identified as the most severely burned, according to the release.
