GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Rescuers climbed the east side of Red Mountain shortly after noon on Wednesday trying to decide the best way to extract a paraglider who crashed there earlier in the morning.

According to paragliders who were in a separate party in the same area, the stranded paraglider is John Goss of Glenwood Vaudeville Revue fame,.

A helicopter from the Air National Guard base in Eagle County arrived at Glenwood Springs High School to assist with the rescue. Rescuers had reached the pilot and were securing him to a gurney.

Other paragliders gathered at the scene said the accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. when turbulence pushed the paraglider too close to the cliff face and his chute stalled.
