With the return of last year’s Haleigh Washington, Doherty High School heads into the 2013 season as the top-ranked team in the ‘s 5A Volleyball Poll.
The Spartans received five of the seven first-place votes. Grandview (No. 2), which finished runner-up, garnered the other two votes.
In Class 4A, Lewis-Palmer — led by junior Alexa Smith, who spent the summer on the U.S. national U18 team — begins the season at No. 1, with four of the seven first-place votes. , Cheyenne Mountain, received the other three first-place votes and finished one point behind in the standings.
Valley and Lutheran, which won the titles for Class 3A and 2A, respectively, sit at the top of the rankings. Class 1A runner-up Caliche is atop that class’ poll with three of the four first-place votes. Weldon Valley (No. 7) has the remaining vote.
