COMMERCE CITY —County officials unveiled a $10.5 million state-of-the-art training facility for law enforcement.
The new Flatrock Regional Training Center, which debuted last week in northern Commerce City, features a 400-acre complex for public safety exercises, including firearms, driving and defensive tactics training. It’s the first facility in the state to offer all those features under one roof, Adams County Sheriff Doug Darr said.
Flatrock features a 10,000-square-foot building complete with classroom space, as well as two 50-yard tactical shooting ranges, one with 21 lanes and one with 17 lanes. It also includes a virtual reality room — called the Force Option Simulator — that simulates realistic training scenarios.
The simulator offers more than 500 unique training scenarios, including low-light simulation. It also features a 3,200-square-foot defensive tactics room, a 6-acre asphalt skills pad for low-speed driving training and a 1.3-mile highway course reserved for high-speed driving training.
“Keeping our residents safe is a challenging task, and the board is proud to support our outstanding deputies by funding a facility that is worthy of the sacrifices they make every day in service to our community,” Adams County Commissioner Eva Henry said.
