How the Broncos fared in the five goals Denver Post beat writer Mike Klis set for them in their fourth preseason game Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals:

1. Keep Von’s farewell clean — John Fox was going to have Von Miller play the first quarter on third down. The coach decided against it and Miller didn’t play.

2. More development from Brock Osweiler — If Peyton Manning goes down for a half, the No. 2 quarterback looks capable. Osweiler was 5-of-5 passing in the first quarter while leading two long scoring drives for 10 points.

3. Slow the fast-break offense — There was no hurry-up offense for preseason Game 4. Osweiler huddled them up. His first 10-play drive took 6:15 off the clock. The first quarter took but a half hour. The first half was played in 1 hour, 16 minutes. The Broncos let the clock roll.

4. Win jobs — Undrafted rookie linebacker Lerentee McCray continued to make plays, but he had to be helped off with serious ankle injury. Did WR Gerell Robinson do enough to beat out fifth-round rookie Tavarres King? Omar Bolden, a converted corner, started at safety.

5. Improve special teams — Matt Prater took care of kick coverage with 5-of-5 touchbacks through the third quarter. He made his short field goal. Britton Colquitt averaged 47.5 yards per punt in the first half, with minimal returns.
