This week, a flatbed trailer used for a volunteer effort to clean up debris from the Black Forest fire was reported stolen.

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief set up an incident command center at the First Baptist Church of Black Forest a week after the blaze was contained. A group of volunteers with equipment and tools from more than 20 states have been working to clear ashes and debris from more than 300 homes, leaving lots clean and ready for contractors to rebuild, free of charge.

The group, which had about 15 houses left to clear, hopes the public can help spot the thieves and return the trailer.

“It’s a real downer to see that someone will steal from people who are just trying to help,” volunteer Bill Furch said Thursday. “It just adds insult to injury.”
