A man hit a woman in the face during a robbery attempt at a Westminster convenience store; when cash dropped to the ground, a second woman swooped in, grabbed some of the money and fled.

The incident happened about 1 p.m. at a 7-Eleven store near West 92nd Avenue and Federal Boulevard, said Trevor Materasso, a Westminster Police Department spokesman.

The incident started when an assailant, a man, attacked a woman, punching her in the face, Materasso said.

As the attack unfolded, cash fell to the ground. The man fled on foot and a woman at the scene scooped up some of the money and she fled in an SUV, likely a blue Ford Explorer with temporary tags, Materasso said.

Police are looking for both the man and woman who fled.

It’s unclear if they were together, or whether the woman acted impulsively.

“Whether she was directly involved, or it was a secondary theft, we’re not sure,” Materasso said.

Further details on the victim’s injuries were not available.
