A malfunctioning hard drive cut computer service into my home office for seven days recently, which meant no e-mails, either. A replacement hard drive put me back to work this past Wednesday. As I scanned the hundreds of e-mails which had piled up somewhere between the readers and my desk, these caught my eye:

Most of us have heard of old Ray Lambrecht, who stored away new and used cars through the years at Lambrecht Chevrolet Co. at Pierce, Neb. The auction of 500 of those vehicles is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29, at the Lambrecht family farm at Pierce. Included will be a ’78 Corvette Indy Pace Car with 5 miles on the odometer, a ’65 Impala 396 with 5 miles and a ’58 Cameo pickup with 2 miles. The sale is being handled by VanDerBrink Auctions. Rickenbaugh plans to open its new Infiniti dealership north on I-25 near Dacono late this month, according to Mary Pacifico-Valley, president of Rickenbaugh Automotive Group. The 20,000-square-foot facility is 20 minutes north of downtown Denver, where Rickenbaugh has operated a Cadillac dealership for almost 70 years.

Alan Donovan, who as a kid more than 50 years ago left the wheat fields of Wray to attain fame in South Africa, will soon be selling his 1948 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible. Donovan is designer and proprietor of the African Heritage House overlooking the Nairobi National Park in Kenya. I’ve written of him and the Chrysler, which transported him back and forth from Wray to the University of Denver in the late 1950s. It may be priced around $124,000.

Adolph Stammler, Audi dealer in Boulder for the past 40 years, has sold the business to Kuni Automotive, based in Vancouver, Wash., and long prominent in Colorado. Jaymie Hampson, formerly director of a Kuni BMW dealership in Portland, Ore., has been named president and general manager of the Boulder store, to be known as Audi Boulder. She has an ownership stake in the store with Kuni; it is the 15th dealership for the automotive group.

Toyota recently sold its 40 millionth Corolla worldwide. Production of the little car began in Japan in 1966; it has been imported to the U.S. since 1968. The first Corolla I reviewed for The Post was a ’78 SR5 four-door, priced at $5,356. Its power was from a 1.6-liter engine.

Robert Thorne and Amanda Hahn of Littleton last week won Sports Car Club of America national championships at the 41st Tire Rack SCCA events at Lincoln. Driving a Honda S2000, Thorne topped 15 other competitors in the B Street Prepared class; driving the same Honda, Hahn beat out two others in the B Street Prepared Ladies class.
