Saturday. The Front Range gets all the press when it comes to ranking the most dog-friendly cities in the U.S., but as any Colorado resident knows, the high country is just as pooch-perfect. Enter the Colorado Mountain Dog Festival, an event aimed squarely at our four-legged friends and their proud owners. Located at Beaver Meadow Resort in Roosevelt National Forest, it kicks off with a fun run/hike followed by live music, free disc golf and swimming (in a pair of lakes, of course) and more than 40 vendors — from animal health and welfare groups to local artists, authors and retailers — flanking the food trucks, “bobbing for hot dogs” booth and veterinarian seminars. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 28, 100 Marmot Drive #1 in Red Feather Lakes. $20. Free for kids under 12. Proceeds benefit the volunteer fire departments involved the 2012 High Park fire. 970-881-2450 or .
