A flood debris removal hotline has been set up for Adams County residents who have registered their property damage with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Rich Neumann, spokesman for Adams County, said hotline operators will register anyone affected by recent flooding with FEMA — if they are not already — then schedule a time for a free curbside collection.
“We’ll certainly help all residents find the right municipality and take the appropriate steps,” Neumann said. “Registering with FEMA is just a way for us to track the damages in the county.”
Residents who use the debris removal service are asked to pile their trash, damaged household goods, and construction materials near the edge of their yards for collection.
Members of unincorporated Adams County and FEMA-registered residents can call 720-523-6888 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. After-hour callers who leave a voicemail with their personal information will receive a return call the following business day.
So far, Neumann said there has not been a high volume of inquiries regarding flood debris removal because people have begun their own cleanup process.
“This is to address possible chemical waste and hazardous waste in those areas,” Neumann said. “We want to dispose of it safely, environmentally and quickly.”
The program will remain open until the end of the year.
