Contracts to construct homes and apartments in metro Denver took a big tumble in August, according to a report Friday from McGraw Hill Construction.
After rising on a month-over-month basis throughout most of the year, residential construction contracts in metro Denver sank by 22 percent in August, falling to $171.7 million versus $219.8 million in August 2012.
Still, strong activity earlier in the year has the total value of residential construction contracts up by about a third compared with the first eight months of 2012.
That contrasts with nonresidential building contracts, which are down 7 percent year-to-date, from $1.54 billion to $1.43 billion.
