DENVER—A 25-year-old Aurora mother whose two children were killed in a house fire after she left them alone for more than seven hours has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
The Denver Post reports ( ) Danielle Lynn Brockman was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to two counts of reckless child abuse resulting in death.
She is accused of leaving 3-year-old Timothy Joseph Ramirez and 15-month-old Alivia Ramirez alone in her Aurora home while she went to a party and a bar with friends in late October 2011.
Timothy was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, and his little sister died a few days later. Both children died of asphyxia.
Investigators say the fire was likely caused by an unattended burner on the kitchen stove.
