Two young children were inside a truck that was stolen in Commerce City Sunday night. The truck and the children, who were not harmed, were found a short time later.
The incident happened about 7:45 p.m. when the mother of the children went into a Walmart, 5990 Dahlia St., and their father, who was driving, went to a nearby liquor store in the 6000 block of Parkway Drive, according to a Commerce City Police Department media release.
The father left the unlocked truck running and went into the store. That’s when someone got into the Dodge Ram and drove off, with the children inside.
About an hour later someone called 911 and police were told where they could find the truck in Adams County. When officers arrived, they found the children still inside the vehicle. They were unharmed, police said. The parents were not identified and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
