Interview with Sam Schuler and Jill Hughes, owners

How did you get involved in this business?

In May of 2007, Sam opened the studio after realizing the power of yoga in her own life. Sam was motivated to spread what she felt, and opened her doors with that in mind. In November of 2009, Jill joined Sam and created a business partnership. Jill had a similar path of recognizing the benefits in her own life that yoga brought and then wanting to create an environment where individuals could heal, grow and change in their lives and as a community.

What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

What we hear, most frequently, is that our sense of community distinguishes us from other places. The staff gets to know the students and there is a sense of being seen and known.

What do you like best about your line of work?

We both love our line of work. We get to wake up each day, practice yoga and then work on how we can create the best yoga in our area. We especially enjoy the growth that occurs with a yoga practice, and seeing students grow and change is tremendously rewarding.

What is your business’ biggest challenge?

The economy has been our biggest challenge so far. We have had to balance keeping yoga affordable and still meeting high standards with our facility and staff, special events, etc.

Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

We are not only a yoga studio, we are also a wellness center. We offer Thai and regular massage, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, psychological counseling, as well as facials, body scrubs, waxing and more.
