GREELEY — More than 90 percent of Weld County roads closed by the September flooding have reopened.
Making those roads operational was a top priority because many are used by local farmers to get crops to market, said Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway. “The flood hit during the start of harvest, and we knew that opening our roads as quickly as possible was going to help us avert a disaster within a disaster.”
More than 65 miles of 160 roads were closed, including such major agricultural routes as Weld County Roads 13 and 61.
As of Friday, county officials say only 10 county roads remain closed. Damage to county roads ranged from minor washouts on some gravel roads to complete destruction of portions of paved roads.
