3) Empire of the Sun — Oct. 29, Ogden Theatre, sold out

With feathery hats, elaborate beaded tunics and capes, performs live as if it were some sort of space-age nomadic clan. If thatap not enough, the group is known to bring along intricate stage setups and dancers wrapped up in a blinding light show. The Australian electronic band has started to gain a large following in the U.S., thanks in part to its wild live shows and catchy, pop-funk music. Empire of the Sun is touring in support of its summer 2013 release “Ice on the Dune,” so itap safe to presume there will be plenty of blues and whites and fur worked into the Oct. 29 show at the Ogden Theatre. (Sold out)

2) DeVotchKa — Oct. 31, Gothic Theatre, $29.50

Fear probably isn’t the first word you would associate with DeVotchKa’s music, but that doesn’t mean the band can’t love Halloween as much as the rest of us. The Denver act has made it a tradition in Colorado to throw a party complete with costumes, gypsy folk-rock and beautiful stage designs to celebrate Halloween. Last year the band brought everything from stilts to skeletons and acrobats. Letap see your friend’s Halloween party do that. This year, DeVotchKa is joined by Shady Elders and Kitty Crimes for its Oct. 31 show at the Gothic Theatre.

1) Tame Impala — Oct. 26 (Boulder Theater) and Oct. 27 (Ogden Theatre), sold out and $28.50-$30

Two chances to see the morphing psych-rock of Tame Impala makes for a pretty good weekend in Denver. The band hasn’t performed in Colorado since releasing its excellent sophomore album “Lonerism,” and to make up for it, the band is playing at Boulder Theater on Oct. 26 and the Ogden Theatre on Oct. 27. Though the Boulder show is sold out, tickets are still available (as of 1 p.m. Friday) for the Denver show. The band, which is known for bringing solid live sets, should be in top form after a series of dates opening for the Flaming Lips.
