(Brian Burton aka and James Mercer of the Shins) has released a strange and mesmerizing part one of a short film with the same name as its upcoming album, (with the subtitle Part One: Angel and The Fool).
that its second album will be out in January 2014.
The film stars Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin and Kate Mara of the Netflix series “House of Cards.” Itap a classic set up: boy meets astronaut girl, helps girl climb over rocks on what is perhaps the moon. Boy kisses girl, while Mercer and Danger Mouse swoon us with bells and and whistles (literally). Boy and girl get abducted? … Wait. A twist!
Guess we’ll have to wait for part two to see what comes of the star-crossed (literally?) lovers and of the Broken Bells (will or won’t they fix the bells?). The film is based on a story written by Danger Mouse, so you can imagine itap a little out there, and pleasantly so. Check out part one below.
The film was released today via the Creators Project, an innovative meshing of art and technology with the goal of pushing “the boundaries of creative expression,” as The project includes more than 500 artists globally, including Four Tet and a work-in-progress with Queens of the Stone Age.
