Veterans Day salutes members of the armed forces for their heroism, sacrifice and dedication. “Thank you” can only begin to share our country’s gratitude and debt. However, a good freebie always helps and many businesses are eager to oblige. Be sure to have proper ID showing proof of service. Here’s a recap of some of the better deals and freebies available for military members (past and/or current) on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, unless otherwise noted.
Seafood Sunday
McCormick & Schmick’s honors vets a day early. On Nov. 10, the fine dining restaurant hosts its annual Veterans Appreciation Event with a free lunch or dinner entrée from a 10-item menu. Plus, vets enjoy 50 percent off select bottles of Stag’s Leap Wine. The offer is especially popular, so make reservations now. There are two Denver locations — 1659 Wazee St. and 8100 E. Union Ave.
No buzz cut required
Great Clips’ promo is a cut above the rest. The salon gives veterans and active military a free haircut. Even better, vets not in need of a trim can still stop by on Nov. 11 and pick up a free haircut card to use any time before Dec. 31. Civilians who purchase a hair care service that day also receive a free haircut card to share with a veteran. greatclips.com
Spit and polish
More than three dozen car washes across Colorado offer a free car wash for active military and veterans, rain or shine. No ID is required, as this is on the honor system. We noticed many popular locations participating, including Car Wash Express, Waterway, Jazz Car Wash and Kwik Car Wash. graceforvets.org/2013/participating.php
Attention, diners!
Vets who map out a plan can have breakfast, lunch and dinner all on the house. Denny’s is flipping all-you-can-eat pancakes from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Red Robin offers veterans a free Tavern Double burger and Bottomless Steak Fries. Golden Corral serves up a free Military Appreciation dinner from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Vets get a free adult buffet (drink not included) at Cici’s Pizza. Choose from eight dinner entrées or any lunch combo at Chili’s. Applebee’s offers a signature entrée all day. At Boston Market, veterans receive a free whole chicken (or substitute a whole meatloaf or pound of turkey) with the purchase of any Family Meal.
Appetizing offers
Carrabba’s Italian Grill dishes up a free appetizer of your choice on Nov. 11. Outback Steakhouse gives vets a free Bloomin’ Onion and beverage. For those with a sweet tooth, enjoy a free frozen yogurt at Menchie’s or drop into Krispy Kreme for a free donut and coffee.
