Homes in metro Denver spent a median of 60 days on the market before being sold in September, down 16 days from September 2012, according to

Nationwide, homes spent a median of 86 days on the market before being sold in September, down 30 days from a year earlier.

Within metro Denver, homes sold quickest in Douglas County, at 55 days on the market, and slowest in Adams County, 63 days.

In Arapahoe County, homes were on the market for a median of 56 days; Denver County, 57 days; Jefferson County, 61 days; and Adams County, 63 days.

The analysis was based on homes listed for sale on Zillow.

Among the 30 largest metro markets covered by Zillow in September, homes moved fastest and spent the fewest days listed on Zillow in the San Francisco Bay Area; Sacramento, Calif.; and Dallas.

Homes sold faster in September compared with a year earlier in all 30 of the largest metro areas, said the study.

Stan Humphries, Zillow’s chief economist, said the declining inventory of for-sale homes over the past year “naturally creates pressure for buyers to move quickly (to) snap up the inventory that is on the market.”

“This demand has been fueled by huge resets in home prices since market peak, historically low mortgage rates and a slowly improving broader economic climate,” said Humphries in a statement.
