KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man was fatally injured in a fight Sunday night after he was caught in someone else’s vehicle outside Arrowhead Stadium during the Kansas City Chiefs-Broncos game.
Police had three persons of interest in custody and were talking to several witnesses. They were investigating the death in Parking Lot A of the Truman Sports Complex as a homicide.
Police spokesman Darin Snapp said the fight started after the victim got into the vehicle and was caught by the owner. The altercation ended with the stranger, a man in his 20s, unconscious on the pavement.
Officers were called about 5:20 p.m. after the fire department had taken the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said the cause of death was not obvious. The fight did not appear to be related to fan rivalry.
The incident occurred exactly a year after Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed Kasandra Perkins, his live-in girlfriend and the mother of his infant daughter, at his home in east Kansas City. Belcher then drove to Arrowhead, where he fatally shot himself in front of several coaches.
