DENVER—The Colorado attorney general’s office won’t criminally charge a prominent conservative activist for changing his residency to vote in the recall election of Senate President John Morse.
Jon Caldara of Boulder registered to vote in El Paso County three days before the Sept. 10 recall election of Morse, a Democrat who led his caucus’ charge for gun-control legislation last year.
The Denver Post reports ( ) First Attorney General Robert Shapiro concluded there is ambiguity in a new state election law that makes same-day voter registration legal.
The letter to Caldara also says Attorney General John Suthers’ office doesn’t condone Caldara’s behavior.
Caldara says his actions highlighted what he believes are flaws in the new election law.
He said Thursday that what he did was legal and added, “neener-neener-neener.”
