The Royal Gorge fire hit Cañon City’s bottom line hard.

Royal Gorge Bridge & Park has been closed for cleanup and reconstruction since the fire that started June 11 and will remain closed until August.

The attraction typically draws $25 million to $30 million in business to the region, Fremont County Tourism Council board chairman Larry Oddo said.

However, businesses that count on visitors to the world’s highest suspension bridge say their income is down as much as 30 percent. Hotels reported lodging is down by about 50 percent.
