DENVER—Denver International Airport officials say the winter storm that dumped snow across the Northeast has caused 40 flight cancellations to and from the airport.

Officials said in a statement Friday that travelers should check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

The Denver airport averages 1,625 flights a day.

The forecast is calling for up to 5 inches of snow Saturday, and airport officials say flight delays are possible.

Snow-removal teams are standing by and planes will likely be deiced before departure.

Airlines canceled about 2,200 flights across the nation Friday as between 6 inches and 2 feet of snow fell from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts, and bitter cold gripped much of the Midwest.
