
Home Depot theft. Police were called to Home Depot, 5215 Wadsworth Blvd., on Jan. 6 on a theft report. An employee had observed a man hide items in his clothing and leave the store. The suspect ran across the parking lot and fled in a 2014 Lexus sedan.
Long-distance scam. Police were called to a home on the 11700 block of West 76th Drive on Jan. 5 in reference to theft of money. The victim stated that she had been contacted by a man in Chicago claiming to be a stranded nephew. She wired four transactions totaling $2,300. The case was referred to the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.
Gas station argument. Police were notified Jan. 3 of an argument at Sinclair gas station, 6301 W. 58th Ave. A verbal argument between two patrons over parking continued when one of the men later called the other at work. No charges were filed.
Power bill scam. On Dec. 23, officers responded to Chit Chat Bistro, 12500 W. 58th Ave., on a report of a financial crime. A restaurant worker stated he received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Xcel Energy and the power to the restaurant would be shut off unless a $1,000 payment was made. The victim paid $500, but grew suspicious and contacted police.
Zombie apocalypse. Police were called to West 72nd Drive and Coors Court on Dec. 22 on a report of a person in a ski mask. Police contacted an individual visiting his girlfriend’s house. He had a club with a metal point at the tip of an affixed ball. The subject said he was preparing for the “zombie apocalypse.” No action was taken.
