A bill in the Colorado legislature would allow cities and counties to set their own rules on for bars, which could result in some bars staying open until 7 a.m. instead of 2 a.m.

Rep. Crisanta Duran of Denver, the bill’s sponsor, said the goal is to reduce crime in places like Lower Downtown Denver by allowing staggered closing times, reducing the mass exodus of bar patrons at 2 a.m.

A similar bill was killed in committee in California last year, with opponents saying the state should encourage less drinking, not more.

What do you think? Should bars be allowed to stay open later? Vote in our poll at right.
