Though he didn’t win for best dance/electronica album, ‘ Derek Vincent Smith told Fuse that he didn’t get his hopes up at the Grammys on Sunday.

“I tried not to get my hopes up being up against Daft Punk and all that,” Smith said during a red carpet interview. His album “A Color Map of the Sun” lost to Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories.”

Smith also told Spin about the paradigm shift in the category that has led to more electronic artists and independent artists being nominated. He then hinted at his upcoming projects, that seem to be leaning toward more of a hip-hop focus.

“I’m working with a lot of rappers that pretty much everyone has heard of,” Smith said. “I’m putting my music into the hip-hop game.”
