The reins that Jay Leno has held for more than 20 years have been finally handed over to fan favorite and ex “SNL” alum, Jimmy Fallon. The musically inclined new host of “The Tonight Show” has a first week’s guest list that reads like best album of the year nominees by the Grammys. Monday’s first guest had Ireland’s biggest musical export, , grace the program in grandiose style. For the moment, the Irish rockers are plugging the sonically charged single, “,” that made a magic splash during the Super Bowl commercials.
And the stage, wasn’t the ordinary stage that will be used for day to day operations, but the rooftop of Rockefeller Plaza at sunset with a small crowd of adoring fans. Bono, was, well, Bono — his charismatic self in charge of delivering the goods like he has been since the late ’70s with the Edge shredding his portion of the evening. As for a new album, U2 is still working on finishing up new/old material with no release date in sight.

In another comedy bit with Will Smith, Fallon danced through the evolution of hip-hop. Dressed in overalls, the two went through Soulja Boy, MC Hammer and other highlights.
