CAÑON CITY — More than 100 people attended a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening at the First Southern Baptist Church to give community support to the teenager who lost her immediate family as a result of Sunday night’s triple homicide.
“Tonight is our way of saying we love you,” the Rev. Thomas Kill-gore said. “All of us are here because we’re sorry.”
The 16-year-old girl is reportedly a victim of sexual assault, according to Cañon City law enforcement. Police say the teen ran Sunday night from her home to a neighbor’s house, and the neighbor called 911. The girl was treated at St. Thomas More Hospital, received some counseling from a victims advocate and is with relatives.
Authorities discovered the bodies of the teen’s mother and two younger siblings at 8 p.m.
