Soup: It warms the heart and soothes the soul.
So what better to feature at an event that raises money for two entities dedicated to providing comfort and support for those experiencing the needs and emotions associated with end-of-life care?
The 14th Soup for the Soul brought 725 friends of and to the to sample appetizers, soups and desserts provided by . The event chaired by Lauren Klopfenstein and emceed by 9News meteorologist Marty Coniglio grossed $425,000.
In a nod to the digital age, guests were encouraged to their for display on a real-time “scoreboard.” Front-runners included the Foraged Mushroom Bisque from ; award-winning posole and Chilled Toasted Almond Tiramisu Soup. Manna is a restaurant inside .
Also popular were the tombo-masago caviar and red albacore tuna appetizers from , a restaurant due to open this spring in the former Highland’s Garden Cafe, 3927 W. 32nd Ave. These tasty tidbits were served during the silent auction social that preceded dinner.
In addition to the food, a highlight of Soup for the Soul was presentation of the Legacy Award of Courage. It went to Jonathan Lujan, a retired U.S. Marines sergeant who was unable to attend because he was in Sochi to compete in the Paralympics as a member of the alpine ski team. , a Littleton native who sustained serious injuries during combat in Iraq, also was the U.S. flag-bearer for the Paralympics’ opening ceremony.
His parents, Chuck and Sheila; his wife, Michelle; and brother, Chris, were at Soup for the Soul and Chris on Jonathan’s behalf.
Guests included LaFawn Biddle, whose Triple B Trust has been a top sponsor of the event since 2005; such Soup for the Soul committee members as Jeannie Bennington, Chris Agnew, Judi Kugler, Pam Grange, Janis Borie and Sue Ann Glusenkamp; Susy Grazi and Marvin Stone; John and Andrea Horan; Thomas and Kim Morrill; Belinda Nields; and Stephen and Eugenie Waters.
