CHICAGO — Venture capitalist Bruce Rauner topped state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and Treasurer Dan Rutherford to win the Republican gubernatorial primary field Tuesday night. He faces Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn.
Rauner said Quinn has chased employers out of Illinois, raised taxes and driven up unemployment.
Also, state legislator and dairy magnate Sen. Jim Oberweis defeated suburban Chicago businessman Doug Truax in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Illinois, sending Oberweis on to a November matchup with Democrat Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate.
