An 18-year-old man was flown out of Clear Creek Canyon in Golden Saturday afternoon after he fell while hiking.

The Golden Fire Department received a call shortly after 3 p.m. Several agencies responded near mile marker 265. Rescuers were able to reach him just as storm clouds were approaching.

“He had injuries to his extremities. That means basically he could not walk out on his own,” said Carlyn Tilley, fire department spokeswoman.

Fearing that poor weather might complicate the rescue, authorities called for the helicopter to fly the injured hiker out.

The man was safely evacuated just before 5 p.m. and taken to a hospital.

“He does not have any sort of life-threatening injuries,” Tilley said.
