Oil and gas company Sovereign plans to sue Broomfield to bypass the city’s voter-approved ban on fracking.
Sovereign planned to drill new wells in Broomfield last year but was stopped because voters in November narrowly approved a ban on hydraulic fracturing, a technique used to free oil and gas from shale formations.
The company argues it had entered into a legal agreement allowing it to drill under strict regulations.
Sovereign wants a judge to determine whether it is subject to the ban.
