Getting your player ready...

Peyton Manning is always on time. With his passes. And his punch lines.

He has a great appreciation for humor and will pay homage to one of his favorite comedians when he appears on “Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday on CBS.

Letterman announced this month he will retire at the end of the year. Manning has long been friends with Letterman, a diehard Indianapolis Colts fan, and wanted to make a final appearance, his fourth, out of respect for Letterman’s career.

Manning last visited the midtown studio Feb. 13, 2007, after winning Super Bowl MVP honors following the Colts’ victory over the Chicago Bears. Manning is coming off the best season of his career, winning his fifth MVP award, before the Seattle Seahawks crushed the Broncos’ dreams in the Super Bowl.

Actress Shailene Woodley, who stars in the film “The Fault in Our Stars,” also is scheduled to appear on the show.
