Interview with Chris Lindley, owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: We were previously Qi Functional Training Centers from 2007-2014 and now we operate under the name Endorphin. Simply put, movement is our drug. I have been an advocate for fitness and health in part due to the epidemic of obesity and the ability to counter this through both feeling and looking better. I also believe that fitness should be community oriented. My background is in public health at the local and state level. I have found that when we work together and hold one another accountable, we are more able to achieve success in our fitness and in our life.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: We are not just a fitness club, we are a community. Need a workout partner? Come to a class and you will leave with 15 new names and a couple of new friends on Facebook. Lacking motivation? Try us out, and you’ll feel inspired – from our very top athletes to our newcomers who motivate everyone with their determination and perseverance. Our instructors do not just instruct, they engage. Health is our first priority; support is a close second. Our gym is one where everyone knows your name and is there to support your goals.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: We are in the business of making people healthy and promoting a healthy lifestyle. It is our purpose to get people to move and enjoy it. Watching people progress and better themselves is like nothing else. Endorphins are produced by the body and it is our goal to help you find, extract, and feel them. We believe that by promoting endorphins (think dopamine and serotonin) as a remedy to multiple ills in society, we will all benefit.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: One of our biggest challenges is how popular we’ve become. We really want to find ways to offer our services and classes in additional neighborhoods so we can reach even more people across Denver.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: We have just opened the largest yoga studio in Denver on South Broadway on April 5. Also, our spinning bikes on Colfax and in Lowry don’t just pedal forward — they actual tilt from side to side! It takes a class or two to get used to it, but these bikes truly give a workout for your whole body – from your core, to your legs, and even to your arms. A surprising thing about me, personally? I have a bronze star for my service to my unit in Iraq.
