Interview with Delisa Novak, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I worked for the former owner as a personal trainer before we became 212 Degrees Fitness. When the gym changed its model from an all-women’s gym to a boot camp/personal training facility, I fell in love with the new concept. So, in April, I purchased the gym.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We are truly a “personal” training facility. We go to great lengths to get to know each of our members and what their needs/aspirations are. It is very important for us to be able to help our members reach their goals. All of our training sessions, boot camp and kickboxing classes are led by qualified, certified personal trainers, and are designed to give our members a quality workout while paying close attention to safety and technique. We encourage and motivate participants to work at their level. Also, we are one of the very few fitness facilities in our area that offer half-hour boot camp classes designed to give our members a phenomenal workout in less time so they can get in, get fit, have a blast and get on with their busy schedules.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The people I get to work with every day. It is such an honor to be invited into someone’s life as they begin their fitness journey. It is so exciting to be involved in something as big as a member losing a significant amount of weight, watching someone doing their first push-up or pull-up or helping a client get back on track after an illness or injury.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: One of my biggest challenges is competing with Colorado’s beautiful weather. To compete with the great outdoors, we will take some of our classes outside. We will train at nearby parks or just use the parking lot and hills next to our gym. It’s a great way to get fresh air, enjoy the gorgeous weather and get an amazing workout.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Last summer, we were chosen to be part of a reality television show, “Gym Rescue,” which was a pilot episode to air on Spike TV. The show remodeled the former gym and supplied our facility with most of the awesome equipment we use in our classes and personal training sessions. I am also a competitor at heart. I have competed in several Muay Thai and boxing bouts. I won the 2009 Golden Gloves female masters division, and recently began competing in physique competitions where I have placed second and third in my classes.
