The weather forecast, as of this writing, calls for isolated thunderstorms and a high of 64 on Sunday, June 8, but short of a hail-packing storm or apocalyptic event, the benefit will go on as planned at .

The brainchild of Kent Denver High School student Alison Koff, the benefit concert will help raise money for the renovation of the Hilltop neighborhood park’s crumbling plaza and iconic sundial.

The lineup features area musicians Petals of Spain, Erica Brown, Ian Cooke, Nathan Brasil, Jonny 5 of Flobots, Laura Goldhamer, Jen Korte and the Dirty Femmes, and members of Dressy Bessy — each of them covering famous songs about the sun.

“The cost to renovate the sundial and plaza is approximately $1.5 million, of which the City will contribute $545,000,” Koff wrote in an email to a co-organizer. “Save Our Sundial and The Park People are charged with raising the remaining funds from the public.”

The show, which is presented in conjunction with local promoter On the Cover, kicks off at 4 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m. Organizers are hoping for 1,000 people throughout the day.
