Interview with Diane Caputo, owner/director

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: I was a dance major in college and owned a studio previously in Westminster for 30 years. After dancing professionally, I started teaching for my dance teacher. She encouraged me to open my first dance school.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: We have a small competition team, but our focus is teaching children self-respect, confidence, etiquette and the art and love of dance. Also we have adult classes that range from beginner to intermediate to advanced. It’s hard to find these type of classes outside of the Denver area.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: I love teaching the children. They are so excited to come into class and learn. Their innocence allows them to be free to explore their creative side.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: Right now it’s trying to grow. There are a lot of dance schools out there to choose from. Getting the word out about what we have to offer is a slow process. The economy plays a big role as well. Our prices are moderate and we are a dance school that has something for everyone.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: We are teaching second- and third-generation students. It’s such a joy to see these children resemble their moms and dads.
