In the ongoing effort to surround Americans in bubble wrap so they never encounter anything remotely resembling a risk, Boulder parks and recreation has declared that diving head first into Scott Carpenter pool is no longer allowed.
, no specific incident or injury prompted the decision. The pool has been open since 1963, it’s always had a diving board (and has two boards today), and the water is 10½ feet deep under the boards — which “meets safety requirements but is shallower than other city pools with diving boards.”
So what’s the problem?
“We don’t want anyone to get hurt,” a recreation spokeswoman explained. OK, but if they really want to ensure everyone’s safety, maybe they should just send them all home.
