For most new bands, playing in front of a crowd of 30 at a house party can be a big step. But hitting the road and playing in a different city or state? That’s a whole different level. For the past two years, Colorado band incubator has traded up-and-coming local acts with other states through the program.
As SpokesBUZZ prepares to kick off its 2014 program, it has announced the cities that it will share our local musicians with. This year, bands will be traded with Athens, Ga., Charleston, S.C., Chico, Calif., Lafayette, La., Madison, Wis., Nashville, Tenn., Portland, Ore. and, of course, Fort Collins and Denver. New additions to the list are Athens and Charleston.
In late September, BandSwap will send seven local bands to these cities to play with a similarly-minded act. Then, in October all local and non-local acts will return to Colorado for a series of “Homecoming” shows.
Last year, $45,000 was paid to musicians and $93,000 was directed toward the cities, according to SpokesBUZZ.
While 2014 bands haven’t been announced, last year acts such as, the Epilogues, the Echo Chamber, Viretta and others participated.
Colorado bands who participate are all involved in SpokeBUZZ’s incubator. This year, SpokesBUZZ welcomed six new bands, Eldren, iZCALLi, Wiredogs, Gasoline Lollipops, Qbala and Pandas & People.
