An ordinance allowing Denver residents in most areas to sell homegrown produce and some homemade food items won approval Monday from the City Council.
The council approved the measure 9-1 after hearing public comment Monday and June 16. Councilwoman Jeanne Faatz, citing some neighborhood opposition in southwest Denver, voted no.
The allows residents , including uncut fruits and vegetables, whole eggs, and home-prepared food products such as jellies, jams, honey, teas, herbs, spices and some baked goods.
Sales will be allowed from 8 a.m. to dusk, starting Friday.
The 2012 Colorado Cottage Foods Act allows for the in-home sales if cities adopt rules. Arvada and Wheat Ridge also have passed ordinances taking advantage of the law.
