As more and more of our lives become digital in nature, questions about what happens to our online accounts and files after we die have become significantly more important.
The Uniform Law Commission this week that would automatically give loved ones access to the deceased’s digital accounts — such as e-mail, Facebook and Amazon.com — unless specified otherwise in a will.
Families certainly have an interest in these files, which in some case also have historical and monetary value.
But privacy activists are skeptical about the plan, with some saying that a judge’s approval should be needed for anyone to access the files of the deceased.
