North Metro Fire Rescue extinquished a house fire Thursday afternoon in Broomfield.
The fire started in the attic around 2 p.m. , said Sara Farris, a spokeswoman.
A woman and her 7-year-old son were home when the fire started but were able to get out of the house quickly. No injuries were reported, Farris said. The fire was contained by a little after 2:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
One witness reported hearing a loud crack shortly before seeing smoke from the neighboring home. Storms were moving through the area at the time, but investigators have not confirmed whether lightning was a factor in causing the fire.
Fire investigators will begin searching for a cause once the blaze is extinguished.
Damage to the single-story home on Troon Circle appears to be extensive, Farris said.
