U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo. (Susan Walsh, AP)
Re: “Sen. Udall, freedom is broader than you think,” July 17 guest commentary.
Mark Hillman used all the standard talking points to try to denigrate Sen. Mark Udall. He goes through the list, starting with the Keystone pipeline, which most people don’t want coming through America because we will not be benefiting from it or even gain more than a few jobs, just bearing the risk of almost certain eventual spills. Hillman also tries to call vouchers “opportunity scholarships” and even calls senators’ votes against such things a “payoff to teachers unions.” No, like most Coloradans we do not support pilfering the public school system for private or religious schools. Those lessons can be taught at home. Hillman goes through the whole list, mentioning taxes, growing government, increased costs and more debt without any examples. It would seem that he could find something of substance after years of Sen. Udall’s service other than Obamacare and the fact that the NRA doesn’t like him.

This letter was published in the July 25 edition.Thank you to Mark Hillman for expressing exactly what I think every time I see Sen. Mark Udall’s ad on TV. It seems that the birth control issue is all he has to run on. I hope a few people realize it is a smokescreen. Women are not being denied birth control, only that which aborts a fertilized egg, and they can buy it without their employer’s consent. Why should we have to pay for others’ promiscuous and risky behavior?
