Quick, check your memory – has any in-state football team faced the kind of regular-season schedule that Valor Christian will in 2014?

Probably not.

Check out the nine games the Eagles have on their schedule.

First, Valor will open at Bonneville of Idaho Falls, Idaho, a state contender.

Next up will be an away game at Pomona, then home games in Highlands Ranch against East of Salt Lake City, third in that state a year ago, and Chandler, Ariz., arguably that state’s favorite.

Then, after a bye week, it will be on to joining the Centennial League, by far the most demanding group in all of Colorado for more than the past three decades. In order, there will be games against Overland, Eaglecrest, Cherokee Trail, Cherry Creek and Grandview.

Make no mistake, the league’s teams each want a piece of the Eagles, who have won five consecutive state titles in Colorado – one in 3A, two in 4A and the past two in 5A.

“It will be challenging,” said Rod Sherman, Eagles head coach.
