Interview with Anthony Gonzales, president
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I knew I wanted to be a mechanic at a very young age. I got my associate’s degree in automotive mechanics in 1986 and went to work for multiple car dealerships. After 15 years in the dealership environment, the economy became difficult and there were too many mechanics for the amount of work available. After trying a few other companies, I came upon a vacant space in a local automotive center and decided to take the risk of opening my own business.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Anthony’s Gold technicians are paid a salary. This is extremely rare in the automotive business, which normally pays on commission. This allows our technicians to take the necessary time with a vehicle and not feel pressured to move to the next job. Because we are a small business, customers can actually speak directly to the mechanic working on their vehicle. We are a family friendly, personal small business.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: We take great pride in our work and honest interaction with our customers. At the end of the day, we feel proud about the services we offer to the community at fair and honest prices.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: During our busiest season, which is summer, we are often challenged to meet customer demand with our limited space and resources. Although we feel blessed to be so busy, we strive for short turnaround times for all customers, which can make summer stressful.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I think people are often surprised at the honest service and quick turnaround time they receive at Anthony’s Gold, as many have had bad experiences with automotive repair. People respond very positively to their experiences at our shop, as we have numerous strong testimonials from our customer base.
